Thursday October 24th
Independent Arrivals at the Empire Hotel, one of New York’s landmark hotels located conveniently on Broadway at 63rd Street, directly across the street from Lincoln Center. Coach Arrival from Ottawa Canada. Wine and Cheese Reception prior to this evening’s performance.

 

We begin our tour this evening with the Metropolitan Opera production of Andrea Chenier. Giordano’s volatile love story is one the most moving verismo operas – featuring a wealth of melody and excitement. Paul Nadler Conducts: Plácido Domingo, Aprile Millo and Frederick Burchinal.

 

Friday October 25th
This morning, we will visit the intimate galleries of the Frick Collection, housed in the 18th Century French-style mansion on Fifth Avenue. From the Fragonard Room, to the masterpieces by Boucher, Titian, Rembrandt, Vermeer and Goya, the Frick contains a wealth of treasures. A special exhibition of 17th century French Drawing will be featured during our visit.

This evening, Franco Zeffirelli’s stunning production of Bizet’s Carmen takes the stage of the Met. Yves Abel conducts: Victoria Livengood is our sensuous Carmen, along side Wendy Nielsen and Ludovic Tezier in his Met debut.

 

Saturday October 26h
This morning we will enjoy an expert guided tour of one of New York’s most enchanting neighborhoods – Greenwich Village. Our tour of New York's unique and legendary home to artists, writers and radicals will emphasize the history and architecture of the area. Stops include the Jefferson Market Courthouse, St. Luke-in-the-Fields Chapel, the Stonewall Inn, and the homes of Aaron Burr, Edith Wharton, John Sloan and e.e. cummings.

This evening, we present the option of two different performances.

 

OPTION I: Franco Zeffirelli’s extravagant production of Puccini’s final opera, Turandot, takes the Met Stage this evening. Carlo Rizzi conducts: Audrey Stottler makes her Met debut in her signature role, along side Hei-Kyung Hong, Vladimir Galouzine, and Hao Jiang Tian.

 

OPTION II: The Montreal Symphony Orchestra takes the stage of Carnegie Hall this evening, under the baton of Charles Dutoit, for a
performance of Berlioz’s La Damnation de Faust. Ruxanda Donose, Giuseppe Sabbatini, John Relyea, and Andrew Wentzel are the featured soloists for this evening’s concert.

 

Sunday October 27th
Morning at leisure.

 

This afternoon, we present the option of attending Chabrier’s whimsical, rarely seen L’Étoile at New York City Opera. (Supplemental Ticket Price $100 Prime Orchestra)

 

This evening, we are very excited to attend the Richard Tucker Gala. One of the most exciting musical events of the season, this year’s gala will feature performances by José Carreras and Renée Fleming, along with guest appearances by some of opera’s most distinguished artists from around the globe.

 

Monday October 28th
We start our day with an expert guided tour of New York’s Neue Gallerie, a museum devoted to early 20th century German and Austrian art and design. One of the finest specialized collections in the world, the Neue Gallerie features masterpieces by Klimt, Schiele, Kokoshka, Kandinsky, Klee and many others. In addition to highlights from the permanent collection that opened in 2001, we will have the opportunity to see a special exhibition of work by Dagobert Peche.

This evening, Verdi’s Egyptian tale of forbidden love takes center stage. Aida is one of the Metropolitan Opera’s most exciting productions, and we are fortunate to have a wonderful cast of Verdians this evening. Marco Armiliato conducts: Michele Crider, Irina Mishura, Richard Margison, Alexandru Agache, and Paata Burchuladze.

 

Tuesday October 29th
Morning at leisure.

 

This Afternoon we will enjoy a behind the scenes look at the Met as we embark on a fascinating backstage tour of the opera house. Following the tour, we have arranged for an exclusive private meeting with one of the Met’s featured singers. You will have the opportunity to enjoy a short recital of arias and song, followed by an enlightening discussion with our featured artist - a wonderful way to get to know a singer who brings your favorite music to life. Prior to this evening’s performance, we will enjoy a farewell dinner together at one
of Manhattan’s finest restaurants (TBA).
We then return to the Met for the premiere production of Bellini’s Il Pirata. This
masterpiece of bel canto writing has never been seen before at the Met. John Copley’s production will feature designs by John Conklin and Robert Perdziola, and features an all star cast. Bruno Campanella conducts: Renée Fleming, Marcello Giordani, and Dwayne Croft.

 

Wednesday October 30th
Independent departures, and coach departure to Ottawa, Canada. Check out time from the Empire Hotel is 12:00 Noon.
